| Richie Schueler Hey there, I KNOW that the university will be very negatively affected by the selling of WUEV. As a graduate, WUEV disc jockey/producer, and full-time employee of the university, I have a unique prospective on the effect of it. I graduated with the Class of 2000 and was involved in campus as a SigEp, Resident Assistant, Intramurals, Neu Chapel Mission Trips, Disc Jockey/Producer on WUEV-FM, and a player on the Men's Basketball Team. And, believe it or not, working at WUEV-FM may have been the highlight of my college career! WUEV is something that is widely advertised when recruiting prospective students. It's one reason I attended UE as well as many others that lived in my residence hall throughout the years. It's an attraction that students are excited about (e.g., "I get to be on the radio if I go to school there!"). Kids love that idea, and therefore, are attracted to the university. Working there is one of my favorite and most prideful memories of being a part of UE. It has a long tradition and, believe it or not, WUEV has sparked some very successfull careers in the radio business. Also, the community is behind the station. I was the producer for "Party Lights" for over 2 years, the most popular show for WUEV. It provides music that kids today like, especially since it's the only station in Evansville that provides that type of music for consistent block hours. DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT UE SIMPLY BECAUSE OF THE RADIO STATION???? Thousands of times I mentioned, "lWUEV, the University of Evansville's Radio Station" over the radio. Some people in Evansville, IN don't even know what UE is. But, as we mentioned it on the radio, UE was promoted. Still to this day (even when I'm not in Evansville), people from the Vanderburgh County area ask me if I'm the same Richie that was 'Richie Rich' on 91.5 for 5 years! I've always thought that, if marketed better, WUEV could be one of the best tools for promoting UE. I think UE would be taking a hard hit by losing the station. Please think about the tradition, memories served, educational opportunities that could lie ahead if it was used properly, prospective student interests, marketing opportunities, and how difficult it would EVER be to get a station back to UE in the future (all frequencies are taken in that area). Why not better use WUEV for academic majors and promoting UE, continue using it for sports, and allow young excited college students to hear their voices over the wavelengths?! I think that UE will lose a lot of alumni support if the station were to be sold, especially for such a small amount of money! In addition, I know that the school will not be supported by the thousands of kids who become adults as they listen to 91.5 FM and learn about UE throughout the years. Is 1.5 million dollars really the price to sell it for? In all honesty, I think that equals out to only 50-60 more students' tuition for a given year. That a quick million in UE's pocket, but I think you will take a HUGE hit in the long run. Please consider carefully, as I don't want to lose something that I still love (WUEV) and my alma mater to lose something so powerful & that is so special to so many people. I would be more than willing to discuss this with you or anyone else in UE community. My cell phone # is ###-###-#### and I currently live in North Carolina. Thanks, |
