| Mitch Gieselman As a UE alumnus and member of the community, I'm really saddened to consider the possibility of WUEV no longer being the on-campus voice of our university. When I was a student in the '70s our stereos were tuned to campus radio (it was a rock station then) around the clock. While I didn't work at WUEV, I cultivated many of my communication skills (I'm the Senior Minister at Aldersgate United Methodist Church) in that department, and I took a course in radio production in the studio. From the day I arrived on campus in 1973, I considered our radio station to be one of UE's "pearls." As a senior in 1977, when I was stuck at work on Aces game nights, I stayed up with them via the voice of Marv Bates and my friend Mark Moulton...and WUEV gave a voice to our common sadness when the plane crashed on December 13. Now at age 50, my stereo is still tuned to WUEV all day long. Where else can I find a good diet of jazz music--and I listen to blues every Sunday morning while I'm getting ready for services! So much other garbage on the radio just doesn't suit me. Maybe the station doesn't fit into the current academic scheme of today's UE. I probably wouldn't, either. I miss going to UE football games, too. Can they actually be thinking of taking away our radio station? Just another step toward making USI the premier university in town. Mitch Gieselman |
