| Charlie Peliska Dear Marcia Dowell, I worked at WUEV during my time at UE and had an excellent experience. WUEV may not be directly connected to any one educational program, but if you promoted it as a tool for different areas of study, it could be yet another aspect of any English, Journalism, History, or Athletic Programs. I recieved a BA from UE in History and Archaeology, and I very much enjoyed working on the 5:00 news program. I think the first thing the Radio needs is actual SUPPORT from not only the UE community, but the entire EVANSVILLE community... make it something the City and area can be proud of... I would say listen to MN public radio and get some ideas from them about programs... and perhaps with promoting the program both on and off campus, and with some trained staff, it can be a main source of news and information for the campus and area. It should be a staple of community radio. Another Radio Station I would suggest checking out is www.kaxe.org both KAXE and MPR are both types of radio that WUEV could evolve into with care and support. While i was there between 2001 and 2004 few students even really knew WUEV existed - thats a shame and the priamary thing that needs to be done is to advertise the station more and have some constant programs that people can become connected to and rely on... the one thing that people in northern MN really enjoy listening to on Saturdays is Green Cheese on KAXE - a radio call in quiz show... something that would fit in very well with UE's creed of Civic Mission - something to peak people's minds... great fun. Anyway, sorry for the long letter, but I really feel that UE would be losing a great asset if they sold WUEV. Thank you for your time. Charles Peliska |
