| Candace Summers Hello, My name is Candace Summers and I am alumnus of the University of Evansville, graduated in 2002. It was recently brought to my attention that the university has plans to sell WUEV, the campus radio station. I think that this would be a horrible decission on the university's part. WUEV has had a long history at UE- not only with students but with the whole Evansville community. WUEV has provided commercial free music, which is very hard to find when looking for a good radio station. Also, WUEV has a wide variety of music, not just pop or mainstream music. Because of that variety, a the station has had a wide variety of listeners from all walks of life. As a student who attended UE from 1998-2002, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to WUEV for countless hours. I picked WUEV over all other radio stations in town because of the fact that they always offered music that I enjoyed and because it was commercial free. Also, many of my friends worked at WUEV tirelessly throughout my time at the university. Selling our beloved radio station would be doing a disservice to not just their legacy, but the legacy of all the other students who have worked at WUEV over the years. They have built up a radio station that has been recognized nationally for many years, having won many awards such as "Best College Newscast" award for six straight years, several Marconi nominations, and several other prestigious awards. Not many college radio stations from a small university such as ours can say they have this much recognition. WUEV was home not to just broadcasting majors, but to all majors across campus. People from all majors were welcomed at WUEV, which allowed students to develop talents they may not have known they had. Please do not sell our beloved station. To those of us who enjoyed listening to WUEV throughout our college career and still listen today, we keep listening because of the fact that WUEV is a unique radio station which people from all walks of life can enjoy. Also, for those students yet to come, they would never get the opportunity to experience the diversity offered by WUEV and also never get the chance to experience what working in a radio station during thier college career to prepare them for their careers afterwards. Though I may not live in Evansville anymore, when my husband and I visit the area, our radio station is always tuned into WUEV. Thank you Candace Hansen Summers |
