| Caley Cheney To whom it may concern: My name is Caley Cheney and I am currently a senior at the University of Evansville. I am taking time out of a busy audition schedule (in Chicago for grad schools) to write this email regarding the potential sale of WUEV 91.5. I cannot express how much I oppose the sale of the radio station. I am a member of the Rated G team and although I do not always make it every morning at the crack of dawn, it has had a very positive effect on my time at this University. I'm saddened that there wasn't more of an attempt to get feedback from the community regarding this decision. I have been working day and night to spread the news and try to get responses from the student population and the community ever since I received the AceNotes blurb. You gave us less than a week to respond, when we have months to nominate for Teacher of the Year. While I appreciate that award and I even wrote a nomination for Rob Griffith last year that was quoted at graduation, this decision is a little more important in the long run than deciding the Teacher of the Year. If you sell this station, not only are you doing away with one of the best and more unique opportunities for students, you will be greatly affecting the community. I know plenty of men and women who tune in to listen to the sports broadcasts. A suprising number of parents and children call in every Saturday morning to request music on Rated G. We also have the best jazz programming in the area, and really the only jazz. I feel slapped and am appalled that the University seems to be treating this matter so lightly. A week? Prohibiting students to even make emntion of the sale on the air so that our listeners can voice their opinions? Not making mention of the Wednesday deadline until Tom Fischer managed to get it out of Marcia Dowell? I'm sorry, but the way the University is handling this situation has made me lose a lot of trust in UE. It's as if they are saying to us that money is more important than students. Many alumni have mentioned donations and how they will not give a dime to the University if WUEV is sold. I agree completely. As a student here for almost four years now, I would have been happy to support our school in any way I could. However, unless the University recognizes the mistake it is making, it will lose the trust and support of many of its alumni, including me. Sincerely, Caley Cheney Class of '06 Member of the www.SaveWUEV.com team |
