Granted, I've been out of the loop for seven years, but what on earth happened in that time? Aside from Len's departure, has there been some drastic situation I'm not aware of that caused a new manager and University administration to chuck out years of successful methods (here's a clue for them...UE has not had a broadcast journalism/broadcast anything program with a focus on radio anytime since I started in 1995 and we did just fine, winning Indiana SPJ awards anyway) to totally screw things up this royally? Has anyone heard the old adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it?" I agree that innovations need to find a place as technology and the field advances, but many former WUEV staffers were quite good at being MacGyver...we did amazing things with what we had and we were good at it. Not to discount the efforts of current student staff, who I am sure are doing the best they can with the situation they are in, but everything I've read about the station and what's happened in the past few years is just pathetic. If the current station manager worked for a for-profit organization, I suspect he'd have been out in the cold a long time ago. Why doesn't anyone in administration hold him accountable for the results or lack thereof? Does UE even care why some alumni refuse to support them? No one's ever asked me...
