No Guarantees, but asking for cash.
Dear WUEV Advocate:
You expressed real support for WUEV in your email. As you know, there was a conversation of whether or not the University should sell the station and your opinion was heard and listened to seriously.
About two weeks ago we asked you to become part of the “Friends of WUEV” by making a gift of any amount restricted for the support of the station. I would like again to offer you the opportunity to become a charter member of the “Friends of WUEV”.
Over five hundred emails were received expressing the opinion that WUEV stay a part of the University community. To date, twenty-four people saw fit to become members of “Friends of WUEV.” That is 5 percent of all of the people that sent emails. We need to hear from you.
Please make you gift to WUEV today by mailing a check to: University of Evansville 1800 Lincoln Avenue Evansville, IN 47722
Or, go on line at www.evansville.edu and select Giving To UE.
Thank you.

They're making me mad. Why go through extreme lifesaving measures if the patient is brain dead?
I think we have a right to know what they're planning on doing with our money, and with the station, and I'm e-mailing as such.

My reply.
-----
Dear Vice President Barner:
Thank you for your e-mail scolding to WUEV advocates who have held off on donating to the Friends of WUEV. It prompted me to send $50 to the fund.
However, in the same vain, I haven't seen you holding up your end of the bargain either. In the memo released by President Jennings, you (along with Marcia Dowell and Mike Crowley) were assigned to design and execute a plan to reduce expenses and increase community support for WUEV -- including the establishment of a "Friends of WUEV" support organization and increase friends and volunteer support.
So...what's the plan? Personally, I don't blame those who have not donated for not doing so yet. Why should people send money to support a plan that hasn't even been revealed yet? Have you three met to discuss how you plan to reduce expenses and increase community support? I'll tell you one thing. Two e-mails saying, "Send us money" ain't gonna do it.
I'm fairly certain that WUEV has enough money to make it through the academic year. The budget is set to provide for it through the academic year so I don't see any need to come to supporters hat in hand right now.
You've got my fifty bucks. Now...convince me you're going to use it wisely because there may be more where that came from.

Thank you, Ryan. My sentiments exactly. I am not sending money until I have some indication as to how the money will be used. What a low-ball move to say, okay, "we'll keep the station. Send us your money now, no questions asked."

For what it's worth, VP Barner did take time to reply to my e-mail.
He outlined a four-part plan for the future of WUEV. However, since that e-mail was sent to me personally, I would uncomfortable posting it here without his permission.
However, I have a feeling if you contacted him with a similar message, he would be happy to share it with you and perhaps grant permission for it to be posted here.

I'd be interested in knowing what his e-mail address is- I wanted to copy him directly (instead of just going through Marcia), but was not able to find him on the campus directory search.

Is it the same parts mentioned in the Crescent story?
"In the meantime, Dowell said discussions have started on ways to improve the station, including asking for monetary donations, soliciting local businesses for underwriting and finding ways for faculty and staff to increase their involvement.
A student support group is also being planned, she said, but specific details for the group have not been decided.
...
With the creation of “Friends of WUEV,” Dowell said those who supported the station in previous weeks are going to be asked to contribute financially."
| | RE: Latest pitch (Angie Kennedy) 13 Mar 13:35 EST |
Doesn't the staff constitute a "student support group"? I find it interesting also that suddenly the light bulb clicks on...oh, let's ask for money and pursue underwriting. What a novel idea!
I'm sorry, this fool will not be parted with her money unless the University comes up with some hard and fast guidelines for how that money will be spent. Did you notice that the original email did not state that money should be (or would be once received) specifically designated to go to Friends of WUEV?

I clicked on every option under "Giving to UE" and there was no choice to specify your gift should go specifically to WUEV. Am I missing something here?
| | RE: Latest pitch (Dance Commander) 14 Mar 10:09 EST |
You're not missing anything. It's just another shady attempt to rake in the dough.

Yeah, like that cartoon in the Crescent like six years ago,
U NEED TO HELP US PAY THE BILLS
I'm with everyone on this one - show me the plan for WUEV, and I'll show you the money - and I'll still do that even though I transferred away from UE in my junior year :-)

Precisely. I would donate to WUEV if they had an established plan and a way to send money directly to the station (or it's support group), and I didn't even go to UE. I worked over at AM 820.
