A Note Of Thanks (Mike Crowley) 10 Feb 12:50 EST

Supporters and Friends of WUEV:

I just wanted to send a note of thanks to all of you for your hard work and support over the past week. Please know that your efforts were instrumental in the University’s decision to decline the offer that was made on the station. I hope this turn of events will help get alumni, students and the community involved with the future of WUEV. I value your input and hope that I get a chance to talk with many of you in the coming months to get your feedback on how we can continue to make this important part of the University of Evansville even better. Again thank you for your outstanding support and concern on this issue.

Mike Crowley
General Manager

I appreciate your thanks, now go and be inspired to do great things.

We don't want to have to go through this again. :)

Then show it by letting students broadcast their school's games...I read that you wnet to Syracuse...wouldn;t you have been upset if you weren't allowed to do games as a student?

Et tu, Brute? Considering some the comments and moves that were made by you concerning WUEV, perhaps an examination of how your efforts at WUEV have contributed to where the station is at this point. Automation, canceling the news, lowering student involvement...All seem to be a factor.

I'm really biting my tongue here, but at the same time I'm willing to give Mr. Crowley the benefit of the doubt. It took a lot of class for him to post his message in a forum where lots of fingers were pointing at him.

And he's right. The reason the trustees will not be considering the offer to buy WUEV Saturday is largely because of the grassroots effort initiated at this website.

Now, Mr. Crowley, this should be an educational experience for you as well. WUEV has a strong network of alumni who believe in the mission of the radio station. Possibly stronger than the network of athletic boosters -- we just don't have as much money to burn given our chosen professions. We look back fondly on what we learned at that station, the friendships made, and the memories that will never be forgotten. We don't want to deny future UE students those same opportunities. Use us to your advantage.

Perhaps this whole situation will result in another positive. If you've read this message board, you've noticed a lot of praise for your predecessor. Those of us who worked with him felt betrayed when UE did not renew his contract and brought you in. We immediately pegged you as a shill for University Relations who would march lockstep with each directive they handed down. Maybe the events of the past week are what we needed to bring the two "factions" (for lack of a better word) together.

So, I look forward to working with you and my fellow alumni to make sure this dicussion NEVER has to happen again.

Thank you for taking the time to post your message.

Ryan,
This is a well thought out post. One can only hope that with the response, that the current administation would respond in a manner that reflects upon both the potential of WUEV, and where is has been prior to the recent past.
As you are undoubtedly familiar with what is a black eye on the institution, with not only the lack of Len's contract renewal, but the way in which it was handled, I wish Mr. Crowley, whom I have never met, success in trying to do what seems impossible, considering his boss was instrumental causing some of the problems in the first place. As someone who is concerned with any erosion of student media, I will be watching the progress made.
