| UE PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES FANTASTIC NEWS! (James MacLeod) 09 Feb 09:30 EST |
To: UE Community
From: President Stephen Jennings
I was pleased to see the level of interest in WUEV expressed by students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents and the general community. It is gratifying to see the amount of support the station enjoys. Based on this input, and our knowledge of the station, we will:
1. Call on our new Vice President for Academic Affairs to provide recommendations on how to increase the academic component related to WUEV. 2. Ask John C. Barner, vice president of Institutional Advancement; Marcia Dowell, director of University Relations; and Mike Crowley, station manager for WUEV; to design and execute a plan to reduce expenses and increase community support for WUEV -- including the establishment of a "Friends of WUEV" support organization and increase friends and volunteer support.
At a point in the future I will review the success of these initiatives to see if we should reconsider other options.

I personally have always liked the idea of a yearly "adopt a watt"
We have 6100 of them that people could adopt. Make up a little certificate, and there you go.

I like the "Adopt a Watt" idea. Sell 6100 watts for $50 each and you have more than enough money to keep the station going. I'll gladly make out a check to this campaign.

If it was set at $10 or $20 we could probably sell more. That would bring in around 60k-120k right there, especially if we could get business to donate stuff to sweeten the pot with. If you keep a database, you could even give people the option to "renew" their "lease" which might make it easier to raise the money every year.
Toss in a booth at the Fall Festival, and I don't think there would need to be too much more fundraising. Several years ago (if my husband remembers correctly) the USI Art Club was hauling in 25k *after* expenses just from selling corn and soda. Pick something Jazzy/New Orleans-y for a WUEV tie-in and there ya go. The only stipulation is that it has to be cooked on site and pass the health code inspection.
Add regular underwriting in, and bada-bing. There we are.

This is great news but why wasn't UE sent an email about this? I haven't received anything about this...and what about the Trustee meeting this Saturday? Is that off?
| | RE: UE PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES FANTASTIC NEWS! (Amber Wardwell) 09 Feb 13:05 EST |
The e-mail just came out.

The trustee meeting is still occurring, but Marcia Dowell claims that WUEV will not be discussed there.
| | RE: Trustee Meeting (anonymous supporter) 09 Feb 12:22 EST |
It will be discussed. The Trustees will bring it up, having been "bothered" with the issue.

does this put the board of trustees out of the mix for the time being?
| | RE: UE PRESIDENT ANNOUNCES FANTASTIC NEWS! (Another Alum) 09 Feb 11:11 EST |
Well, the first thing they can do is look at bringing Len Clark back. I doubt if he would want to.
We need to continue to push more student involvement and that means in station decisions and programming. Let the students broadcast sports, news, etc!
I still think this was a stunt to raise money.
| | Stunt (SaveWUEV Staff) 09 Feb 11:29 EST |
Whether or not this was a 'stunt,' we can easily see that the University was after money.
