send letters to the station (chris allman) 07 Feb 21:18 EST

Everyone should print whatever they sent to Ms Dowell to the station's mailing address to be placed in the public file.

that makes all these comments official as far as the FCC is concerned

Unfortunately, Non-commercial stations do not have to keep letters from the public like their commercial counterparts. However, if the sale is indeed made, the public can petition the FCC against the sale, with informal objections and petitions. It will raise the issue on the radar and it will make the sale that more expensive and more a PR nightmare.

That's a very interesting point, Michael. Could the students actually put UE in a position where they would have to spend more money than they intended to complete the sale of the station -- reducing the amount of money they stand to gain from this "fantastic offer"?

As a side note, I corresponded with Rob Lorei, the public affairs director at WMNF in Tampa, on Monday. WMNF is a community radio station not affiliated with any university, but it is very similar to WUEV as far as the audience it serves.

He suggested students and supporters consider hiring an attorney to stop the sale. I hate to think it would ever get to that, but at UE anything's possible.

Lorei and WMNF have offered to speak with students to discuss how community-oriented radio and be viable anywhere in the country. Contact information can be found at www.wmnf.org.
