So, what exactly are they going to do with the money? Does anyone know? Give everyone a raise, or build a pool or what?

no disrespect intended...but even before drug testing we had better teams

To "cover" a $1.1 Million budget "shortfall" (screw-up)?
| | RE: The Money... (Amber Wardwell) 07 Feb 12:49 EST |
Well. That's an interesting rumor.

| | RE: The Money... (SaveWUEV Staff) 05 Feb 01:56 EST |
There's been no word about their intentions regarding the potential funds acquired.
| | RE: RE: The Money... (Amber Wardwell) 05 Feb 10:50 EST |
What I don't understant is why they would sell so soon after upgrading the facility. And to create a campus only station would still require some kind of investment, which would mean that most of the money from the sale would probably go toward that.
| | RE: RE: The Money... (Mike Finkelstein) 05 Feb 15:08 EST |
One would think. Either the investors are buying everything, equipment and all, or they are just buying the rights to the 91.5 bandwidth.
In the event that they just want the 91.5 signal, you would think it would have to be some huge amount of money for UE to be considering it... well, maybe not huge, but enough to get that kind of attention. For a non-profit, that seems a weird amount of money to just throw around...

plus, on campus limits what shows would be produced since it would only cater to the interests of the students and not the whole community.
on a separate note: why have we never had the news as part of our broadcasts?
| | RE: RE: RE: The Money... (Angie Kennedy) 17 Feb 15:16 EST |
Oh, but we did and won best college newscast by the Indiana Society of Professional Journalists at least three or four years in a row the time I worked there. When I was a student we broadcast two half hour newscasts at 12:00 and 5:00. I believe I was informed that they were discontinued in May 2005.
I'm class of 1999.

As far as I can tell from their site, the Crescent also chose not to print any information about the news in this weeks issue as well.
| | RE: RE: RE: The Money... (Anonymous) 05 Feb 14:56 EST |
With all this crap about secrecy, shouldn't some red flag go up as to the motives behind this decision????
| | RE: RE: RE: The Money... (DeeJay) 05 Feb 21:48 EST |
Well, one of the Evansville papers ran a story about this, so it's not too secret. UE is inviting public comments, so I went ahead and said something on the air. Oops! Heh heh...

| | Broadcasts (SaveWUEV Staff) 05 Feb 11:09 EST |
WUEV DJs have been instructed not to mention the potential sale on air under possible harsh penalties.
| | RE: Broadcasts (Jelly Bean) 05 Feb 18:47 EST |
Maybe they don't want it mentioned on air because those considering selling it are afraid the community will be against the sale also.
| | RE: Broadcasts (Jelly Bean) 05 Feb 18:48 EST |
Which is crap
| | RE: Broadcasts (Mike Finkelstein) 05 Feb 20:28 EST |
Agree.

So now they're stiffling Free Speech. That's BS.
| | RE: Broadcasts (Matthew A. Woodruff) 05 Feb 17:00 EST |
Agreed.
| | RE: Broadcasts (Rick daniels) 07 Feb 15:02 EST |
actuially, in mike crowleys defense, comments about the sale could hurt the station more than helping it. the FCC could penalize WUEV legally. and it would out its license in jeopardy!!
| | RE: Broadcasts (Amber Wardwell) 07 Feb 19:25 EST |
I can understand limiting djs from ranting about it, but as soon as other news outlets started running the story, there should have been a PSA script prepared giving the contact information. Obviously the people who care listen to the station.
